The paper you use for your watercolour artwork should be acid-free for long term stability and have minimal absorbency to prevent the colour sinking into the paper. Aside from that, it can be any size and any colour (white gives the brightest image) and for best results it should be stretched before use to guard against wrinkles which can form when the paper comes in contact with water.
We stock an extensive range of watercolour surfaces at Eckersley’s, from single papers to pads and visual journals in all the most popular brands including Winsor & Newton, Fabriano, The Paper House, Montval and more. And if you’re just starting out on your watercolour journey, our staff will be happy to help with any advice or information you might need.
